Why Delta Continues to Set the Standard for Customer Service, Accessibility, and Inclusion

Published August 20th, 2026
For many travelers, choosing an airline comes down to schedules, fares, or loyalty programs. For me, it comes down to something much simpler:
Trust.
That is why I choose Delta Air Lines whenever I have the opportunity.
In an industry where every airline promises a great experience, Delta consistently stands apart through its commitment to customer service, accessibility, and a culture that puts people first. While no airline is perfect, Delta has earned a reputation for treating passengers with dignity and respect, and that commitment is one of the reasons so many travelers remain loyal to the brand.
What impresses me most is Delta's ability to recognize that every passenger's journey is different.
Some travelers are flying for business. Others are heading home to see family. Some may be traveling with mobility challenges, medical conditions, sensory sensitivities, or disabilities that are not immediately visible to others.
The best airlines understand that accessibility is about more than compliance.
It is about creating an environment where every traveler feels welcome.
Delta has demonstrated that philosophy time and time again.
Every day, Delta employees assist passengers who use wheelchairs, travelers who are blind or have low vision, individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, older adults who require additional assistance, military veterans, and travelers with both visible and invisible disabilities.
What makes Delta special is not simply the services it provides.
It is the people providing them.
Whether interacting with gate agents, flight attendants, customer service representatives, or airport staff, passengers routinely encounter employees who are willing to take an extra moment to listen, assist, and help solve problems.
That culture of service matters.
As someone who is autistic, I know firsthand how important that can be.
Today, autism affects approximately 1 in 31 children in the United States, meaning millions of autistic individuals and family members travel every year for work, education, vacations, medical appointments, and family events.
For many autistic travelers, airports can be challenging environments due to sensory overload, unexpected changes, crowded terminals, and disruptions to routine.
The reality is that many disabilities are invisible.
A traveler may appear completely comfortable on the outside while quietly managing anxiety, sensory overload, or other challenges.
That is why patience, understanding, and communication are just as important as any physical accessibility accommodation.
In my experience, Delta employees consistently understand that.
A Moment I'll Never Forget
One particular experience has stayed with me over the years and perfectly captures why I continue to choose Delta.
I was traveling on a Delta flight that had been overbooked, and I was unexpectedly bumped from my original itinerary. Like anyone else, I was frustrated and disappointed. At the same time, the unexpected change created additional stress, and I began experiencing sensory overload.
The airport was crowded.
The environment was noisy.
My travel plans had suddenly changed.
Anyone who has experienced sensory overload understands how overwhelming those moments can feel.
A Delta employee named Han noticed that I was struggling.
I was not a First Class passenger, nor did I have lounge access. Yet Han recognized that I needed a quieter environment and allowed me to spend time in the lounge so I could decompress and regain my composure.
She did not have to do that.
It was a simple act of kindness.
But it reflected something much larger about Delta's culture.
At that moment, Han was not thinking about policies, ticket classes, or status levels.
She was thinking about helping another human being.
That experience has stayed with me for years.
Not because of the lounge itself, but because it demonstrated the power of compassion, understanding, and genuine customer care.
Exceptional customer service is often measured in small moments.
A helpful conversation.
A calm explanation during a disruption.
A willingness to listen.
A gesture of kindness toward someone who needs support.
Those moments create lasting loyalty.
They certainly did for me.

Why Accessibility Matters More Than Ever
The importance of accessibility and inclusion continues to grow.
As more individuals are diagnosed with autism and as awareness continues to increase, airlines have an opportunity to ensure that all passengers can travel comfortably and confidently.
For autistic travelers, challenges can include bright lights, loud announcements, crowded gate areas, schedule changes, long lines, and unfamiliar environments.
A 2025 survey of more than 4,000 autistic individuals and families found that many respondents reported significant difficulties when traveling independently due to sensory challenges, unpredictability, and anxiety.
These are not isolated issues.
They represent real travelers, real families, and real opportunities for the travel industry to make a difference.
The good news is that progress is already happening.
Airports around the world have implemented sensory-friendly spaces, autism-awareness programs, and specialized training designed to better support neurodiverse travelers.
These efforts prove that accessibility and excellent customer service go hand in hand.

Delta's Opportunity to Lead
What excites me most is that Delta is already operating from a position of strength.
The airline has built a culture centered around professionalism, safety, empathy, and service.
That is why I believe Delta is uniquely positioned to become an even greater leader in autism inclusion.
Enhanced autism-awareness training, additional sensory-friendly resources, expanded accessibility initiatives, and partnerships with advocacy organizations could further strengthen the airline's already impressive commitment to serving all passengers.
To be clear, I do not believe Delta should pursue these efforts because it is lacking.
I believe Delta should pursue them because it is already leading.
The strongest leaders never stop improving.
Accessibility benefits everyone.
Clearer communication benefits everyone.
Empathy benefits everyone.
Creating a more inclusive travel experience helps families, older adults, first-time flyers, travelers with disabilities, and anyone who may need a little extra support along the way.
I choose Delta because of the people.
I choose Delta because of the professionalism.
I choose Delta because of the customer service.
Most importantly, I choose Delta because time and time again the airline has demonstrated that treating people with kindness still matters.
My experience with Han is only one example of that.
Every day, Delta employees create similar moments for travelers around the world.
That is what makes Delta special.
And that is why, whenever I have the choice, I fly Delta.
